Laparoscopic Artificail Insemination

LAI, also known as intrauterine insemination, deposits semen directly into the lumen of the uterine horns. This technology was first developed in 1982 in Australia. From that point forward it revolutionized the production sheep industry around the world. LAI is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that requires veterinary expertise. The technique utilizes a laparoscope which allows the veterinarian visualize the ewe’s reproductive tract. The semen is deposited directly into the lumen of the uterus throught the use of an assistant. The LAI procedure takes minutes per ewe allowing her to return to normal activity within a short period of time. Conception rates range from 50 to 80 percent depending on several factors involved.
